Yamout Is Willing to Lay Down his Life for the Gospel

My friend, Pastor Hesham Shehab, invited me to attend a presentation by Mr. Mohammad Yamout, a missionary from Lebanon. I never heard about Mr. Yamout before. I thought this is going to be another talk about all civil wars, fighting in that country, and the difficulties Christian workers face to spread the Gospel. In fact, it turned out to be the other way around. Mr. Yamout was bold and straight forward. He did not mention any difficulties or threats he faced there. He did not even ask for any financial help. (I understoond from Pastor Hesham that Mr. Yamout was jailed a few times, tortured, and driven out of his hometown, for the Gospel work there).

In his testimony, Yamout mentioned how God miraculously helped him financially (getting a job for his wife as a teacher, when they had no money to school their children). In 2008, the Yamouts left everything back home, in Beirut, and went to Tyre, in South Lebanon, in obedience to God’s calling. It was a very touching and faith boosting testimony. The Yamouts walked by faith in a town that was 95% Shiite Muslim.

He said, it was a great joy for him to work for the Lord in that difficult region, and if it was needed, he would be willing to lay down his life for the Lord. He warned that, we, Americans, are getting too much into Islamophobia that paralyses us. He assured that if the present trend continues, we may lose our Christian freedom in America! Yamout added that we need to love Muslims unconditionally for Christ, not fear them. I completely agree with him.

May God bless him and protect him.

Hesham Shehab

Hicham [pronounced HESHAAM] grew up in a world of bitter animosity between Muslims and Christians, which he experienced personally in a physical attack when only about 7. By age 13 he was recruited by an extremist Muslim group and later fought against Christians in the 1975 war in Lebanon. He was preparing to become a Muslim Preacher (Imam) when a car accident laid him up for a year. In 1980, in his first semester in college, his brother was killed by Christian militia. Hicham's response was to study by day, and by night take out his revenge in attacks on Christians. However, hearing the Sermon on the Mount, in a course of cultural studies (in college), brought him to faith. Later, Hicham earned an M.A. in the history of the Arabs and did Ph.D studies in the history of Islam. Hicham finished his pastoral education at Concordia, Fort Wayne, IN, and is currently in the Ph. D program there. Presently, Hicham, and ordained LCMS minister, pastors Salam Christian Fellowship and works as a missionary to the Muslims with the Lutheran Church in Illinois.

  1. May God be praised for Mr. Yamount’s testimony and how his life, through Jesus, is giving glory to our Father in Heaven! Loving Muslims like Jesus is the answer. “I love, help my unloving, O Lord. Continue to use your children to bring many to know the freedom in You no matter what the cost. Use me.” Thank you for sharing this letter regarding Mr. Yarmount. We will pray for him and his family who have given up so much. In Christ, Cecilia

  2. Love is just what Mulims need to know and believe in Christ. This was exactely my case. Nothing could make me accept Christ except love. I heard and even was a witness of different wonders that were accomplished through Christ in people’s life. All this was amazing but could not touch the center of my heart. But the love I experienced from those I was extremely persecuting because of their faith was what touched deeply my heart and made me give my life to the Saviour Jesus-Christ. Abou Sama
